Millwall boss will be at Stamford Bridge for FA Youth Cup tie – and sends good luck message to Lions’ kids

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Gary Rowett and his Millwall management team will be attendance when the club’s U18s take on Chelsea tonight in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final.

The Lions are huge underdogs heading into the tie.

They knocked out AFC Bournemouth in the previous round to set up a last-eight meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Millwall quickly sold out their allocation of 1,000 tickets and Chelsea refused to grant them a bigger away following.

Rowett said: “I’m really looking forward to the game.

“I’ve always said the same – it is really important, where we can, that we support the young players. We saw them against Fleetwood, and then watched a live stream of the Bournemouth match.

“I’ll be sending them a little text today wishing them all the best.

“We’ve got some really good players in the U18 group and I suppose tonight will be the ultimate test because Chelsea are so strong at youth level.

“It’s a great experience to see which of our players step up and embrace the occasion and which ones it affects a little more. That is what this competition is all about.”
