New Covent Garden Market is best in UK

New Covent Garden Market has been recognised as the best wholesale market in the UK. The famous hub in Nine Elms, which supplies fresh fruit and vegetables to London’s top hotels and restaurants, received the accolade at the Great British Market awards.

Head of communications for Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA), Alastair Owen, said: “We couldn’t be happier to have won the UK’s best wholesale market award and it is a real testament to the work we do to support the market’s businesses and to bring the wonderful experience of New Covent Garden Market to as many people as we can in imaginative and innovative ways.”

The CGMA was also praised for the support it provides to traders and its work with young people and events. Last year, the market introduced Food Exchange for the first time, where small food businesses in the UK come together to create a “food hub”. The market houses 175 companies and employs 2,500 people.
