Working together to deliver a greener Bexley
We’ve had lots of interest and positive comments from residents about the new wheelie bins that we’re introducing this summer to replace our recycling boxes.
It’s thanks to our residents that Bexley has been the best London Borough at recycling for the past 14 years. We will continue to listen to you as we plan the roll-out.
We know – because you’ve told us at the roadshows we’ve held recently – that you’re
pleased that the new wheelie bins will reduce the amount of windblown litter, and that you want to recycle more.
Over 20,000 of you have also been in touch to select your new wheelie bin sizes. Don’t
worry if you’re not one of these, you don’t need to do anything. Everyone will automatically receive a medium-sized blue lidded bin for paper and cardboard and a large white lidded bin for plastic, glass, cans and cartons, unless they tell us they want a different size.
If you want a different size bin you must tell us before 31 May by completing the form at www.bexley.gov.uk/request-your-bin-size
You will not be able to change the bin size you get after 31 May.
You’ll start to get your new wheelie bins from late July and delivery to the whole borough will take around 14 weeks in total. You can keep your old recycling boxes, if you want to. If you don’t want to reuse or recycle them, we’ll collect them the week after you receive your new bins. We’ll put more details on this on our website at the end of June. We’ll continue to collect your food recycling (small brown box) every week. You told us that you wanted these to be more secure, so we’ve changed them, and they are now larger and more tightly locked.

Bexley council are that incompetent they need the public to tell them the bins are of poor design. For years residents have had the inconvenience of seperating recyclable waste into small boxes and cleaning up food waste from bins that are just puzzle toys for foxes. No one recycles food waste in my area. You know people have just moved in because once a while you see food waste all over the street. They don’t bother afterwards. Next door Greenwich have been getting it right for years- that’s probably the most scathing criticism.
