Three landmarks in a borough are among the most popular in the UK, according to social media.
The Tate Modern in Southwark, has been one of the most visited places in the UK since 2010.
The former power station turned art gallery, known for its modern and interactive exhibitions and panoramic views over the Thames, has been referred to in nearly 900,000 hashtags on a social media site, ranking it
in the top 10 most visited places in the UK.
The Shard is one of the tallest buildings in Europe and its popularity has reached similar heights as it has been mentioned almost three quarters of a million times in hashtags since opening in 2012.
Borough Market’s fresh food, inviting scents and bustling crowds have not attracted as many visitors as it is referred to less often on social media
than more noticeable attractions in the capital.
Amber Doig-Thorne, a popular Instagram influencer and actor in London, said: “If you’re looking to take a great photo, my top tip is to be prepared.
Have a rough idea of what type of photo you’d like to take – lighting, time of day, angle, framing etc – and that will ensure that when the perfect moment comes, you’re ready to take that Instagram-worthy picture.
“If you’re happy to wake up at 5am in the morning to beat the crowds to get the perfect photo, that’s great – but I know most of us like our lie-ins.
Personally, I never wake up early to get the perfect shot. Instead, I make sure I know exactly what type of picture I’d like to take and then will wait for the perfect moment to capture the scene.
Eighteen of the top 20 landmarks analysed were in London with a combined total of nearly 17 million mentions on Instagram.
