Stoke City keeper on Crystal Palace’s transfer radar – with doubts over Vicente Guaita’s future

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Crystal Palace are interested in Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The Eagles are tracking the 25-year-old – who is reportedly valued at around £15million – amid doubts over the long-term future of Vicente Guaita.

Butland stayed with Stoke City after their relegation from the top flight last season but they are totally out of the promotion picture and will face at least another season in the Championship.

Palace legend Julian Speroni sees his contract end in June and it is unclear if he will sign on for another 12 months in SE25 – although the veteran South American keeper is intent on carrying on playing.

Guaita, 32, has a deal with the Eagles until the summer of 2021 but the former Getafe stopper could be on his way back to La Liga.

He was the subject of interest from other clubs even before he officially arrived in SE25.

Guaita moving on would free up the funds and the space to bring in Butland, 25.

Butland has kept 11 clean sheets for Stoke City this season. He joined them in a deal thought to have cost around £3.8m from Birmingham City in January 2013.

The Bristol-born goalkeeper has a contract with Stoke until June 2021. He has been capped nine times by England.
