Star of the sarod stringed instrument plays at music festival

A characteristically Indian classical instrument, a cross between a guitar and a sitar, played by one of its highest profile exponents, will be the focus of a music festival next week.

Indrayuddh Majumdar, the son of the legendry sarod maestro Tejendranarayan Majumdar, and one of the brightest sarod players of his generation in India, is coming to Wimbledon.

He will perform a magical Indian classical music instrument called a sarod on Friday, 29 June 2018 at 7.30pm.

Saudha (www.saudha.org), a Merton-based, leading Indian classical music organisation, is presenting this ‘breath-taking’ ‘hypnotic’ performance at Merton Arts Space in Wimbledon Library.

Curated by the finest Indian classical vocalist in Europe, Srimati Chandra Chakraborty, Indrayuddh will be accompanied by a critically acclaimed musician Aniruddha Mukherjee on Tabla.

The director of Saudha Ahmed Kaysher said: “Saudha is bringing world-class performances of world music and arts to the cultural scene of the South London venues. Indrayuddh is one of the brightest stars of Sarod in India at this moment will create a haunting interpretation of Indian summer through transcendental raga renditions.”
