Quiz star’s tribute cuts to The Chase

Shaun Wallace is more known for his sharp intellect, gibes and disconcerting stare, all of which are deliberately off-putting for the contestants he faces on ITV1’s The Chase.
But it appears the TV baddie has a softer side in real life as he visited Woolwich’s Caribbean Social Forum as part of its Black History month celebrations. The barrister and quizmaster surprised the group of over 50s who meet weekly to combat loneliness and socialise with others who are also mainly of Caribbean heritage, enjoying a range of activities, including health and educational talks, visits, games, dancing and music.
He greeted an audience of more than 100 elderly people on October 12, speaking of his upbringing by his Jamaican parents. He then joined everybody for the popular Caribbean dish of curry goat with rice and peas.
Wallace was a champion on Mastermind and has also appeared on TV quiz shows Fifteen to One and The
Weakest Link. He praised the sharp minds of the elderly Caribbean people who came to Britain in the 1940s and 1950s as part of the Windrush generation.
Forum organiser Pamela Franklin said: “Shaun gave an inspirational talk about his journey and showed his appreciation of the Windrush generation.
“Their contribution and the pathways they have made are what allowed him to be where he is.”

The Windrush generation are fast dwelling and people like Shaun taking an interest in what they brought with them then and are still contributing to our society is what makes Black History month relevant to all.
