Portsmouth boss Jackett confirms appeal over Millwall midfielder’s red card against Charlton Athletic

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has confirmed he will appeal the sending off of Ben Thompson in last night’s 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

The on-loan Millwall midfielder was shown a straight red card by referee John Brooks for a 50-50 challenge on Lyle Taylor in stoppage time at Fratton Park.

If Thompson’s ban is upheld then it will rule him out for three games – meaning he will not be available until the December 29 game at Fleetwood Town.

Jackett said: “I had a good view of the red card, I thought it was a harsh one, I thought it was two committed players going in.

“They both went in equally hard, low and for the ball. I was surprised when the red card came out.

“I had a very good view of it, it was right in front of me, and we will be appealing”’
