Play-off six-pointer Bradford City clash comes at perfect time for Charlton Athletic – Chris Solly

Tomorrow evening’s clash with fellow play-off chasers Bradford City is just the perfect opportunity for Charlton to put recent disappointments behind them, according to Chris Solly.

Late goals in each of their last two fixtures have pegged the Addicks back from winning positions– with the South Londoners even going on to lose after conceding twice to Oxford United last time out at The Valley.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Doncaster Rovers provided further disappointment – but Solly is targeting tomorrow’s game to put things right.

“We’ve got a good game on Tuesday,” said the Addicks right-back.

“Bradford are in and around us, so it’s a good game to have – the sooner the better. Three points there and we move on to MK on Saturday. Bradford are up there so that’s the sort of game you want on Tuesday. After a disappointing result like that, to follow it up with a big game like that is the perfect scenario.”

The Bantams, who appointed Simon Grayson as their new manager yesterday, have also dropped points in the last few games. This means that Charlton are still just two points outside the play-off places – but Solly says that the Addicks have to do their part too.

“I honestly haven’t looked at the rest of the results, but if we aren’t doing our jobs then it doesn’t matter,” he added.

“We’ve got big characters in our squad. If you’re ever around the training ground, it’s never quiet. We’ve got a good group of lads, tightknit as well. So [players’ heads dropping] is one thing you haven’t got to worry about.

“It’s good to have everyone back fit now, especially the options we’ve got going forward. We’ve got five or six very creative players that we can chop and change. We’ll have fresh legs for our three games this week. Once our squad is fully fit, we’re a very strong squad – up there with the best in the league.”
