National Apprenticeship Week in West Norwood

Fashion apprenticeships are to be promoted to young people, at an event taking place during National Apprenticeship Week at London’s Fashion Retail Academy.

The academy is hosting an open evening for Lambeth school pupils, parents and careers advisers in West Norwood, to help them find out more about the opportunities on offer after the exams are over.

The academy – recently awarded Ofsted outstanding status – offers one-year diploma courses and two-year accelerated university degrees across a range of head office roles including buying, visual merchandising, marketing, design, digital, merchandising and retail management.

Visitors will also have the chance to see the work of current students and chat to staff and representatives from the academy.

“London is one of the industry’s leading fashion capitals, and the Fashion Retail Academy is proud to be at the heart of this,” said the academy’s principal, Lee Lucas.

“Our first ever cross-borough outreach event in Lambeth will help us to extend our message on the career possibilities in fashion and the education and training we provide across our fast track degree and diploma programmes to get young people into jobs in the shortest time possible.

“We hope this will be the first of many such events.”

The event, held in conjunction with careers advice service AllAboutSchoolLevaers, hopes to engage with schools and pupils in Lambeth and across South London to raise awareness of their courses, which provide an alternative to fashion courses at university.

Fashion Retail Academy degree courses include a three-week placement with a major high street label, industry mentoring and guaranteed interview for graduating students.

The fast track degree is delivered over two years instead of three, allowing participants to save time and expense while gaining invaluable on the job experience.

Fashion Retail Academy open evening; Main Hall, The Elmgreen School, West Norwood, SE27 9BZ; Tuesday March 20, 6pm until 7.30pm; admission free.
NOTE: The date of the event has been moved from Wednesday March 21.
