Millwall-Brighton set for March 17 – live on BBC One – and it’s a bonus that they get extra day of recovery after Birmingham exertions

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall’s FA Cup quarter-final with Brighton & Hove Albion will take place on Sunday March 17.

The tie at The Den will kick off at 2pm and be shown live on BBC One.

It was the same broadcaster who televised their 3-2 fourth round win over Everton in SE16.

Millwall’s fifth round tie against AFC Wimbledon was not chosen for live coverage.

The TV revenue from the Brighton match is worth in the region of £350,000.

And there is also an extra payment of £250,000 due to the Championship side which goes the furthest in the competition.

Swansea are the only other second tier club left in the competition – and they host Manchester City in the last eight.

If both Championship sides were to go out in the next round then that money would be split between them.

AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster split £125,000 for making it the furthest of the League One clubs. Rovers lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace.

The Eagles’ quarter-final tie at Watford is a 12.15pm kick-off on Saturday. It will be screened by BT Sport 2.

The scheduling of Millwall’s game is a bonus. They go to Birmingham City on Wednesday March 13, and so gain an extra day of recovery.

It will then give them a clean break before heading to Leeds United on March 30.
