Matt Southall tried to buy Charlton Athletic before – ESI keen on deal for West Ham United midfielder
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Matt Southall’s interest in a Charlton takeover is nothing new – he started looking at the South London club in 2010.
East Street Investments have agreed a deal to buy the Championship side off Roland Duchatelet.
The EFL interview the current owner first as part of their approval process. Then they will talk to Abu Dhabi-based businessman Tahnoon Nimer, Southall and Jonathan Heller, who would make up the new board.
Southall, pictured above, will be the new chairman.
He was part of a different consortium looking to buy Charlton off Richard Murray nine years ago – only for the SE7 outfit to fall into the hands of Tony Jimenez and Kevin Cash.
ESI are keen on making Josh Cullen’s deal into a permanent one. West Ham have a clause to extend the Republic of Ireland international’s stay until 2021.

If you can afford to do so, we would be so grateful if you can make a donation which will allow us to continue to bring stories to you, both in print and online.
