Lee Bowyer provides fitness update on former Leeds man – and whether he will be fit for Valley game on Saturday

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton Athletic captain Jason Pearce will be fit for Saturday’s match against his old club Leeds United.

The Addicks centre-back was an unused substitute in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic.

But Charlton manager Lee Bowyer is confident that Pearce will be ready to go for the visit of the Championship table toppers.

“With Pearcey his groin was a bit tight,” said the Addicks chief. “He didn’t really train last week. With three games in a week [coming up] I had to be careful with him.

“He’ll be fine for Leeds. My worry on Thursday was it was still tight and he couldn’t train. If I’d played him there is every chance he could’ve pulled it.”

Brighton loanee Beram Kayal was missing at the DW Stadium.

The 31-year-old Israeli international has played just 12 minutes of Championship football since signing on August 8.

“He has got something wrong with his groin,” said Bowyer. “He pulled out on Friday.”
