Death at Thameside Prison in addiction wing
The death of a prisoner who was found with fatal neck wounds inside a privately-run jail is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.
The inmate, aged in his 40s, died at Thameside Prison at about 2.30am on Sunday.
A post-mortem examination found he had died from incised wounds to the neck.
The Met said: “Following this result and having taken all the available evidence into consideration, police are not treating this death as suspicious.”
The force added that the inmate’s family are “being supported by specialist officers”.
HMP Thameside is a Category B prison run by the private company Serco and holds more than 1,200 inmates.
A man, in his 30s, was initially arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released under investigation.
Officers from the Specialist Crime Command have been informed and enquiries into the circumstances continue.

absolutely awful there is so much Spice in Thameside its unbelievable. Even if you are worried about a prisoner no one answers the phone not even the safer custody line which is supposed to be manned 24/7. stop this private run prisons. they are run on the cheap by unqualified staff
I more than understand the problems with drugs in all prisons but would like to add to your comment that WE are not unqualified staff! All staff there are trying so hard to keep the prison safe, for the prisoners and staff!
Thameside is out of control the place is full of Spice no wonder this has happened
The whole place is over run by drugs, they don’t pick up the phones either. A family is in there sadly and the harassment for money to pay debts by dealers in there is daily, they have free run with the drugs and mobiles. Worry about his safety more in there then when he chooses to live on the streets.
