Jenkins lined up as Garton’s first defence

Peckham’s Johnny Garton is set to make the first defence of his British welterweight title on March 8 against Chris Jenkins, writes Richard Cawley.

The 31-year-old won the domestic crown – vacated by pal Bradley Skeete – when he stopped Gary Corcoran in the 11th round in October.

Now he puts that belt on the line at the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington.

Garton has won 12 of his last 13 bouts – drawing the other – since a stoppage defeat to Sam Eggington in 2014.

Swansea-born Jenkins has lost three and drawn twice in 25 fights.

Clapham light-heavyweight Kirk Garvey challenges Miles Shinkwin for the English title at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on March 2.

The 28-year-old is going into his big fight off the back of a second loss in 13 bouts – a 95-94 points reverse to Andre Sterling for the vacant Southern Area title.
