It’s carnival time in Greenwich and Lewisham

The Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT) want to develop Woolwich community and carnival projects with a £7,500 fund.

Communities are vying for funds from the council to improve their neighbourhoods. Greenwich council drafted a shortlist of 13 projects for their Neighbourhood Growth Fund and the public are invited to vote for their favourite. The projects are split into four areas across the borough, Area One: Eltham and Shooters Hill, Area Two: Blackheath and Greenwich, Area Three: Woolwich and Charlton and Area Four: Abbeywood, Plumstead and Thamesmead.

They are looking to run more than 50 community events, such as workshops and club nights, as well as delivering Woolwich’s own carnival. Ganga Thapa is a musician and community leader who helps organise a music and food event called Sounds of the World at the Tramshed.

He said: “I think it’s very important for GLYPT to continue running community projects.”
