Homes could be demolished to make way for 70-bedroom care home in Bexleyheath

A 70-bedroom care home could be built in Bexleyheath.
Four homes in Danson Road would be demolished under Carebase Ltd’s application to build the home, which would range from one to three storeys in height.
According to a planning statement submitted by Carebase, the accommodation would focus on residents with advanced care needs, such as dementia.
Carebase said: “The future residents of the home will have complex medical and life-limiting conditions and as such can no longer properly or safely be cared for in their home with support from district nurses.
“Rather, their conditions are so advanced and complex that they require constant access to medical care and nursing support.”
The applicants add that the new home would help address increased demand for specialist aged care, which is forecast to rise by 40 per cent in Bexley compared to the national average of 19 per cent.
Initial plans for the site proposes accommodation across three floors, with the ground floor providing general nursing care and the two upper floors providing dementia care accommodation.
The applicants state the loss of housing which would arise from the development has been addressed by Bexley Council before, when the authority approved Groveland Park Care Home on Stephen Road.
The number of new places provided in the development would outweigh the loss of the prior residences, the applicants maintain.
If approved, it would not be Carebase Ltd’s first foray into Bexley, with Heathfield Court at Erith also under their umbrella.
