Former Derby winger to get another Charlton Athletic runout in Welling United friendly
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Former Derby County winger Simon Dawkins is set to get another friendly runout for Charlton Athletic in Saturday’s game at Welling United.
The 30-year-old played for the Addicks in a 3-3 behind-closed-doors game at QPR’s training ground last weekend.
Dawkins left Derby in 2016, spending two seasons with San Jose Earthquakes.
“He’ll play again at the weekend,” said Charlton caretaker boss Lee Bowyer. “We saw him in training at the back end of last season and obviously he did well – I could go to training and look good in small-sided games, because you haven’t got to run around too much.
“I wanted to see the fitness side of things in a big game because his situation is that he hasn’t played football for a while. Against QPR he did really well.
“We know we have a talent and he is different to anyone else we have got in the building. He has got experience and ability. It’s just the fitness side we want to see.”
