Exclusive: Reading take Dulwich Hamlet youngster on trial as Charlton don’t push through deal

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Dulwich Hamlet’s Jay-Rich Baghuelou has headed straight on trial to Reading – after Charlton Athletic failed to secure the young defender on a deal.

The teenager, from Croydon, has hooked up with the Championship side this week.

And Dulwich manager Gavin Rose believes the level of interest in centre-back Baghuelou, 18, means it is only a question of which professional club he signs for.

“He went on trial to Charlton last season and it carried on into this season,” said Rose. “The truth of the matter is he did really well there and had been offered a deal in principle but due to finances at the club they were unable to do anything about it.

“He has got four or five suitors after him. I’d probably expect him to get a contract because there are another three or four clubs who want him to go in with them.

“He played a full season in our academy and some games in the first team last year.”
