Ernest Bevin College celebrate table tennis success
Ernest Bevin College’s U19 team won the Regional Schools Team final at Bristol Academy of Sports at the weekend to qualify for the National Schools final at Hinckley Leisure Centre on March 14.
They qualified for the regional finals by winning the Jack Petchey London finals in January – beating teams from the Petchey Academy, Wallington County Grammar School and Whitgift Independent School.
They also had two players qualify for the National Schools finals in Wolverhampton in April by winning the Central London area tournaments in their age groups. They are brothers Nahom and Daniel Goitom, who qualify for U19s and U16s respectively.
Nahom and Daniel also qualify for the London Schools Individual finals in June alongside three other players from Bevin who finished in the top three at the Central London area tournament – Howard Onweng (U19), Zakir Zephyr (runner up U13) and Yusuf Zephir (third place U13s).
The college’s table tennis programme is supported by Greenhouse Sports, a charity that is a London-based charity committed to using sport to help young people living in the inner city to realise their full potential.
