Dons defender praised by boss for getting the beers in

Neal Ardley has praised Darius Charles for buying drinks for AFC Wimbledon fans after Saturday’s match at Bury was called off.

The League One game was postponed just before noon following heavy snowfall at the Energy Check Stadium.

Charles sent £150 over to a Manchester pub for travelling supporters who had already made the journey north.

“I’m going to have to check his contract – I must be paying him too much,” joked Dons manager Ardley. “It is a great touch.

“I think his girlfriend might have been up for the game and that helped him make sure the money got across. Stories like that should be the sort you hear a lot about in football because a lot of the time it is doom and gloom and negativity.”
