Crystal Palace interested in Southend midfielder Yearwood

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Crystal Palace are weighing up a January move for Southend United midfielder Dru Yearwood.

The South London Press has been told that the Eagles have been keeping close tabs on the 18-year-old.

Yearwood, who has a deal with the Shrimpers until the summer of 2021, has made 12 appearances this season and produced two assists in nine League One appearances.

Southend boss Chris Powell, speaking last month, urged the Harlow-born teenager to stay with the Essex outfit.

“This is the best place for Dru at the current time,” Powell told the Southend Echo. “He will only get better from playing games and he’ll get that here.

“But he’s a player that when fit and available is a very big young talent.

“You just want the best for him wherever the future takes him but he’s our player right now and I want that to continue.”
