Choose your best teacher
Parents and students will have the opportunity to nominate their teachers at the London Teacher of the Year awards which highlights the hard work done by teachers for disadvantaged pupils.
The winners will be selected by the University of Greenwich and there are separate awards for primary, secondary, further education, newly qualified teachers, support staff, volunteers and teams, and in a number of different fields including the Raising Aspirations category.
The university will also give the London-wide Raising Aspirations winner two free tickets to see music legend Paul Weller at an al fresco concert in the beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
Jan Orlebar, careers adviser at the University of Greenwich’s Education Support Unit, said: “The University of Greenwich are really proud to sponsor the category for Raising Aspirations.
“At the education support unit, we do lots of work with schools and colleges around the area, and a lot of that work couldn’t be done unless we were working with teachers that really believe in raising aspirations.
“It’s those teachers that give us access to students and that have really high aspirations for their students.”
Awards coordinator Karen Brinkman said: “The University of Greenwich really are an authority when it comes to raising aspirations, so it’s brilliant that they are judging that category of the London Teacher of the Year Awards.
“And I would say that it is such an important category, celebrating the dedication of teachers doing such important and often extremely challenging work. So I would urge people to send in nominations for it as soon as possible.”
The other judging organisations include the London Borough of Bexley, Kidzania London, KCS, Principals, eTeach, Imperial College of London, Havering Academy of Leadership, the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Century Tech, the Education People, EduKit and No 4 Hamilton Place.
The deadline for nominations is noon at March 7, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Mayfair headquarters of the Royal Aeronautical Society in June. For more information see londonteacheroftheyear.co.uk.
