Charlton transfer chief reveals that Thomas Driesen STILL advising Roland Duchatelet on transfers

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton head of recruitment Steve Gallen has revealed that Thomas Driesen is still heavily involved in the sanctioning of incoming deal.

Driesen gave an exclusive interview to the South London Press in 2016 – with many supporters critical of him being part of the process in terms of players being signed by the Addicks.

The Belgian was an analyst who was involved across Roland Duchatelet’s network of clubs at that point.

And Gallen, speaking at the fans’ forum on Monday night, confirmed that Driesen has remained as an advisor to the Charlton owner.

Charlton published minutes today. And one section detailed the following: “SG said with every player that comes in Roland Duchatelet (RD) will look at him as will his adviser Thomas Driesen (TD). He said this was the same for all the transfer business in the summer. SG said he has a good relationship with TD. He said nearly every club he speaks to, nearly every chairman/owner has an adviser or a couple of advisers. He said part of his role is selling a player to TD. He said he doesn’t always agree with TD, like he doesn’t always agree with LB but that he respects the way he works.

“SG said that he and LB have discussed that situation and said you either fight it and probably lose, or work with it and hopefully win and generally, he said, looking at the players coming in Krystian Bielik and Josh Cullen etc. – they’re good players.”

  • Drisen was behind Sarr, Bauer and Vetokele plus others so obviously not all bad . Polish Pete though .

  • Driesen was also behind the signings of bergdich, nego and tucadean so not all good either! Even little Tommy wouldn’t own up to endorsing Relegation Roger (Johnson) but then who would?
