Charlton suffer setback as Conor Gallagher set for Chelsea recall – and fresh loan switch this month

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Conor Gallagher is set to be recalled by Chelsea – with his fine form for Charlton Athletic set to lead to a move to a higher-placed Championship club.

There always looked a strong possibility that the Blues midfielder could cut short his time on loan with the SE7 outfit as there has been heavy interest in securing his services in the weeks leading up to the transfer window opening.

Gallagher’s exit will be a blow to Addicks manager Lee Bowyer, who has made the England U21 international virtually an ever-present in his side.

But it is expected that Gallagher will join one of the Championship sides who are pushing for promotion from the second tier.

The 19-year-old has scored six goals in 26 matches for Charlton this season.
