Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet made contact with boss Lee Bowyer after derby loss to Millwall

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer has revealed that he had a chat with Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet this week – for the first time since his summer talks to negotiate a new contract.

The Belgian businessman got in touch after the Addicks’ 2-1 derby loss to Millwall.

“It was purely about the season so far,” said Bowyer. “It was about the disappointment from the weekend – the way we lost the game. That was the one negative thing.

“And then a lot of positives, on another day we would have won that game.

“Their goalie had a great game and made some great saves. He was just saying that the way we played out from the back and created chances from close range was good to watch.

“He said he is happy with the way things are going and the way we are playing.”

Duchatelet and Bowyer spoke in the summer when he was staying in France’s Champagne region following League One play-off final glory.

And the latest conversation took place again when the Addicks chief was staying in the exact same spot.

“It is the first time I’ve spoken to him since I was last here,” said Bowyer. “It made me think ‘has he got a camera to see me pull into this place!’.
