Charlton manager Bowyer hopes to have new deal sorted shortly
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer believes his new contract could be signed within days after a positive meeting with the club at the weekend.
The Addicks boss was offered a five-year deal on Thursday after going public that he was unhappy that his future would not be discussed until the end of the transfer window.
He said potential signings were asking about how long he would be around if they did sign for the club – but now believes an agreement could be secured “with a phonecall or two”.
Bowyer said: “We had a good meeting with the chairman and my agent over the weekend. We are not far apart.
“There are a few things that need tweaking. Hopefully we can sort those out soon.
“I am happy with the change in the timescale. I don’t think it will take long now. A phonecall or two should get it over the line.”
The promotion of Steve Gallen to director of football is also a positive, he added – it will enable the former Doncaster Rovers star to negotiate with the agents of players who are being recruited, once clubs have agreed on a transfer.
“We will work closely together regarding players,” said Bowyer. “But now we’ve got someone between me and the chairman and we never had that before.
“Steve can organise things at the training ground but if decisions need to be made, Steve has the authority to do that.
“He deserves it. He has worked very hard. I am really pleased with that outcome and his promotion. It is about the club moving forward.”

Your entire comment is the most irrelevant thing i have ever read. Let me break it down for you;
1. Bowyer had publicly stated that he will probably sign the contract in he next 24 hours but he wants to make sure the compensation package surrounding the contract is to his suiting. He literally couldn’t be more open with these comments.
2. Ivan Toney carries an asking price of around £11-£14 MILLION, well out of our price range when you look at the amount of players we require and FFP rules.
