Charlton boss Lee Bowyer waits on deals being agreed for Johnnie Jackson and Andy Marshall

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer’s new contract at Charlton Athletic could be signed later this week – as he waits for members of his backroom team to negotiate their own extensions.

Director of football Steve Gallen is in talks with assistant manager Johnnie Jackson, pictured, and goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall about extending their terms.

Along with Bowyer, all three are due to be free agents at the start of July.

The Addicks manager confirmed at the back end of last week that he was “very close” to putting pen to paper.

Jackson, a fans’ favourite at The Valley during his playing days, has been Bowyer’s trusted number two ever since he replaced Karl Robinson.

Former Millwall stopper Marshall took on his role in the summer of 2018 when Lee Turner opted to move to the Lions.

Bowyer was hoping that his Charlton squad numbers would be boosted before tomorrow’s derby with Fulham. Only Andre Green has arrived on loan since the transfer window opened.

Charlton would have to have any new additions registered before midday today for them to feature against Fulham, bossed by former Addicks midfielder Scott Parker.

The Addicks could have Lyle Taylor, Josh Cullen and Sam Field all back from injury for the visit of the west Londoners.
Charlton have won one of their last 17 fixtures.
