Charlton boss Lee Bowyer on what he hopes to get from Joe Ledley and Lyle Taylor’s return to action

Lee Bowyer hopes new recruit Joe Ledley will add some experience as well as depth to his injury-ravaged squad – and welcomed the return of Lyle Taylor to action after injury.
32-year-old midfielder Ledley has signed a short-term deal at The Valley as Bowyer looks to bolster his squad in the midst of an injury crisis.
The Welsh international came straight into the starting line-up for today’s defeat at Middlesbrough, although he was replaced at the interval as Bowyer looked for a way back into the contest.
“[He’ll bring] experience,” said Bowyer.
“He’s got bundles of experience. It’s only a month’s contract. He’ll help us out bodies wise. We don’t have the bodies. He’ll bring his experience and help these young lads through this period.
“It’s all ifs and buts,” added the Addicks boss, when asked if a longer deal could be offered to Ledley at the end of his original month.
“He has to come and do well and then that’s something that we might talk about. But as it stands, the most important thing was that he gets in and is training to try and get his fitness up.”
Taylor has been side-lined since suffering a knee injury on international duty at the start of September. The striker had already bagged five goals in the opening six games of the season and Bowyer is delighted to have his talisman back in the side.
“He was a little bit off of it but you could see what we’ve missed,” said the Charlton manager.
“He fights, he competes for every ball. He puts dangerous balls into the box. The ball he hit got a good block from the defender, that was flying. That would have ended up in the back of the net. The most important thing is that he’s back. We got 45 minutes into him. We’ll try and do the same on Tuesday [at home to Huddersfield].
