Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has only started two of the signings made at the end of the summer transfer window – Jonathan Leko and Josh Cullen both going straight into his team for today’s home game against Stoke City.
But there are no places in the matchday squad for Sam Field or Beram Kayal, who were also loan arrivals this week as well.
Chris Solly replaces Anfernee Dijksteel, sold to Middlesbrough for £2million, with Jake Forster-Caskey and George Lapslie both dropping to the bench.
Chuks Aneke, missing for the last period of pre-season after suffering a hamstring injury at Gillingham, is fit enough to be another one of the substitutes.
The Addicks look set to play a midfield diamond or a 4-2-3-1 formation as they return to action in SE7 for the first time since their play-off success.
It is the first meeting between the two clubs since the 2007-08 campaign, when both sides won on their own patches.
Charlton: Phillips, Solly, Pearce, Purrington, Cullen, Pratley, Gallagher, Williams, Taylor, Leko. Subs: Amos, Oshilaja, Forster-Caskey, Aneke, Bonne, Sarr, Lapslie.
Stoke City: Butland, Ward, Allen, Lindsay, Batth, Ince, Smith, Gregory, Hogan, Clucas, Woods. Subs: Federici, Vokes, Verlinden, Cousins, Campbell, Duffy, Collins.
