Charlton Athletic have rejected four bids for Lyle Taylor from Brentford.

News broke that the Addicks has turned down an offer on Wednesday for the 29-year-old striker, who hit 25 goals last season as the club won promotion to the Championship.

And Taylor was all smiles again on Saturday as he got off the mark in the 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers.

But Brentford, armed with cash after the £20million sale of Neal Maupay to Brighton, have made four offers for the forward, who is in the final year of his contract in SE7.

It is understood that the fourth of those was with all the money up front and not in instalments, as most transfers are structured. But it was also the approach the Bees took when they signed Ezri Konsa from the Addicks – and on that occasion owner Roland Duchatelet accepted the repackaged deal. The only difference was that it was a slight rise on the third offer.

The South London Press has been told that the fourth bid was comfortable past the £3million mark.

Taylor has stayed silent on his situation, although there was a cryptic post on his Twitter page yesterday.

The question is whether Charlton will soften their stance or another bid come could in which changes things. There seemed an indication that Brentford had walked away after their third offer, but then still came back to up the ante a little more.

Charlton are back in league action on Saturday when they host Stoke City – their first match back at The Valley since winning at Wembley.

Duchatelet has raised funds with the £2million sale of Anfernee Dijksteel to Middlesbrough yesterday. But Bowyer also made clear in his comments to the club’s official website that the Addicks management team had sanctioned the move.

There is a chance that Charlton could look to bring in a right-back outside of the window – as you can still sign free agents. The Addicks also have cover in that department with the experienced Chris Solly as well as Deji Oshilaja, who can play the role too.
