Charlton Athletic midfielder set for exit – and striker could follow to gain first-team experience

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Albie Morgan is set to head out on loan – with the Charlton Athletic midfielder able to join a National League side.

The Addicks have seen their midfield options boosted by the deadline day additions of Birmingham’s David Davis and Manchester City’s Matt Smith.

Coupled with the return to fitness of Sam Field, it looks unlikely that the 20-year-old will get much of a look-in for the remainder of the Championship campaign.

Morgan had been on loan at Ebbsfleet before the injury crisis at Charlton forced a recall.

“Albie needs to go and play some games,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer. “He needs to get his fitness up and learn the game.

“It is better than U23 football. We’d like to get a couple out. I don’t think it would be a bad thing for Josh Davison, but we’ve got to evaluate the striker situation at our place. He did well for us when he played.

“Ben Dempsey, maybe it would be good for him to go and play as well. I’ll look at the ones who are in and around us.

“Alfie [Doughty] will stay with us.”
