Charlton Athletic coach Jason Euell reveals verbal abuse at Dons game

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Jason Euell has revealed he was abused by an AFC Wimbledon fan after Charlton’s 2-1 win on Saturday.

Euell, who played for both clubs, was in the directors’ box at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

He is Charlton U23 boss and also an assistant coach for England U18s.

Euell posted about the weekend incident on Twitter. He wrote: “I have always had support from AFC Wimbledon fans, as a player and now as a coach.

“I was there today as Charlton played AFC and I was shocked, when at the end of the game, I was verbally abused by a ‘AFC fan’ as a “m****r f******g traitor’ in front of my 11 year old son and other young children.

“Whilst I know frustrations run high at games, this was absolutely unjust. A fellow parent (a mum] confronted the guy and told him to watch his mouth and language around kids, and how totally unnecessary it was and abusive. His reply was ‘whatever, he is anyway’.

“Really?? This may be accepted at some grounds, but I never thought this would be the case at Kingsmeadow.

“As always, when AFC play next I will be looking out for their result and with fingers crossed that they’ll manage to avoid the drop.”

As a supporter of both Wimbledon and AFC Wimbledon for many years I can only apologise to Jason for the behaviour of a single idiot. Believe me when I say that this does not reflect the views of a vast majority of supporters at Kingsmeadow.

Whilst not condoning the action in any way, I hope that Jason can understand the frustration of losing in injury time when every point is vital in a battle against relegation. Sadly, sometimes these frustrations boil over.

I do hope that this isolated incident will not put Jason off returning with his son to KM, or the new ground when it is completed. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club, with a large number of families attending regularly.

I also hope that the club can identify this ‘supporter’ and issue him with a ban.

As an AFC supporter I can say that the idiot who shouted at Jason Euell only speaks for his idiot self. Jason has been to Kingsmeadow on several occasions and we all are happy to see him in attendance. He may be an AFC manager in the future. It is a shame that one moron can ruin things. I am truly sorry for the actions of one, so called “fan” who is nothing more than a fool.

The trouble with AFC Wimbledon fans is that every time Charlton go there, there are idiots who are openly rude and abusive. If it is not Jason Euell it is Karl Robinson . If not them then Lee Bowyer.

This is the mob who could not go to Palace to watch Wimbledon. This is the mob who were ,it is said were forming AFC before Winkleman moved to Molton Keynes and built a superb stadium.

I like many now view them as a spiteful little club of rude dunder heads and Dum kopfs.

    Nasty lot.
