Charlton Athletic will stay in a local hotel the night before their next home game against Cardiff City on November 23 – with manager Lee Bowyer claiming the early kick off for Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Preston affected their preparations.
The Addicks are in action at Millwall on Saturday and then have an international break before the Valley date with Neil Warnock’s side, which is being televised.
“If we can get three points at the weekend it will push us up the table a little bit,” said Bowyer. “But we have to be at our game – the intensity has to be there. The players know that.
“We have to be at it every single time. I don’t think the early kick-offs help us. Darren Pratley had to get up at seven in the morning to have something to eat, jump in the car and be at the ground for 9am.
“We’re going to approach it differently next time that we play at midday – we will go in a hotel. Because at least then the players can sleep until 9am, then come downstairs and have some food. Those couple of extra hours in bed make a big difference. We have learned from that [Preston game].”
