Anfernee Dijksteel has completed his move to Middlesbrough – with Charlton Athletic banking £2million.

Boro agreed a fee for the young Dutchman on Monday afternoon and Dijksteel agreed personal terms before travelling to Teesside for the medical.

The South London Press understands that medical tests took until 8pm last night, when the transfer was completed.

Charlton have a sell-on in the deal for Dijksteel, 22. He would have been out of contract at the end of next June.

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer told the club’s official website: “Anfernee has developed so much over the last 18 months and played his part in the club’s promotion last season. It’s a tribute to the hard work of Anfernee, the first team staff and the club’s academy that he has become the player he has.

“Letting Anfernee go was a decision made by the footballing staff, it was a tough decision for us but it is a good deal for the club. Our focus remains on bringing in players that improve us ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.

“We wish Anfernee the best, except when he plays against us of course.”

Dijksteel said: “I want to thank all current and former staff at Charlton Athletic, as they have helped me develop into the player I am today.

“I would also like to say a massive and sincere thank you to the fans of Charlton Athletic. Thanks for your support, for travelling with the team all over the country. You will always have a special place in my heart.”

Every Charlton fan should stay away Saturday. We are the only promoted club to weaken our squad rather than strengthen it. We will not get any of the transfer fee it will be pocketed by our owner. He is determined to sink our great club. It is time to make a stand before it is too late.
