Bolton “six-pointer” is a sign of Millwall’s progress – boss Neil Harris

By Richard Cawley
Neil Harris reckons tonight’s match at Bolton Wanderers underlines the progress made by his Millwall side.
Both clubs were promoted from League One last season but it is the Lions who have adjusted better in the Championship with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bristol City leaving them just a point outside the play-offs.
Wanderers took the second automatic slot in the 2016-17 campaign but are just above the dropzone.
The Lions are unbeaten in 15 league games.
Millwall manager Harris said: “At the start of the season we thought going to Bolton at this stage of the season would be a six-pointer to see who would be staying in the division. It is a massive six-pointer, but we are trying to get out of the division – that’s how far we’ve come as a team.
“We’ve wanted to chase teams at certain stages of the season – teams I felt we were capable of catching above us. I told the players after getting beaten ‘we’ll catch them, we’ll be better than them’. Sometimes they have looked at me a little bit strangely, but we’ve caught them all.
“We have proved to be a very, very good team. There are a handful of games that there was no way we deserved to lose. It sounds crazy considering where we are, but we could’ve had so many more points and got closer to that top two.
“Bolton have changed their team a lot recently and also switched around the formation, so it is a little bit of an unknown what we are going to face.
“But we focus on ourselves and go with confidence, to try and get the three points.”
