Tom Lockyer makes his full Charlton debut as Lee Bowyer has opted for three at the back for the Championship opener at Blackburn Rovers.
Lockyer, a summer acquisition from Bristol Rovers, will line up alongside Naby Sarr and captain Jason Pearce as the Addicks return to life in England’s second tier at Ewood Park.
Wembley goal-scoring hero Ben Purrington and Anfernee Dijksteel will operate as wing-backs, with George Lapslie and Darren Pratley in the middle of the park.
They will be joined by Jake Forster-Caskey, who makes his first league start after almost a season out with a serious ACL injury.
Jonny Williams, who returned to The Valley in the summer after a successful short-term deal last season, will play just off talisman Lyle Taylor.
Midfielder Conor Gallagher, 19, is on the bench after signing on loan from Chelsea yesterday. He will be kept company by fellow new recruits Ben Amos, Deji Oshilaja and Macauley Bonne as well as Albie Morgan, Chris Solly and Brendan Wiredu.
Charlton: Phillips, Sarr, Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington, Lapslie, Pratley, Forster-Caskey, Dijksteel, Williams, Taylor. Subs: Amos, Oshilaja, Gallagher, Bonne, Morgan, Solly, Wiredu.
