A radio presenter set a new world record for identifying the highest number of Taylor Swift songs from just their first lyric.

Dan Simpson, from Balham, identified 27 of the superstar’s top tunes in 60 seconds, setting the first ever record for the feat.

The host of the afternoon show on Fun Kids radio said he was “baffled” by his Guinness World Record.

Mr Simpson said: “My cousins are all getting married and buying houses and I have a Guinness World Record for guessing Taylor Swift songs – I wonder who my Gran is more proud of?

“I’m not the best in the world for being stronger, fitter or smarter than anyone else – I’m a record holder for being slightly obsessed with Taylor Swift, and that will always be hysterical.”

Mr Simpson detailed his gruelling revision process of listening to Taylor on repeat for the month leading up to the attempt.

“I found the challenge of it fun, but I’m not sure my mates did,” he said.

“I don’t think I had a conversation with anyone for around a month without getting them to throw in a few Taylor Swift first lines to test me.”

He correctly identified chart-toppers including Blank Space and Shake It Off from just their opening line.

Mr Simpson’s certificate has pride of place in his bathroom and he hopes his record will remain unbeaten.

He is a presenter on Fun Kids, which is a UK digital radio station for children and families.

Mr Simpson’s record will appear in the 65th edition of Guinness World Records 2020.
