Addicks set for anxious wait before extent of Jonny Williams’ knock is revealed – as Lee Bowyer bemoans Charlton’s recent luck with injuries

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton are set for an anxious wait before finding out the extent of Jonny Williams’ injury.

The Welsh international was withdrawn midway through the first-period of Saturday’s comfortable 3-0 home win over Derby County after suffering a knee injury.

The Addicks are due to travel to Bristol City on Wednesday evening but Williams’ involvement will now be in doubt.

“He got a sharp pain in his knee,” explained Charlton boss Lee Bowyer.

“We’ll have to wait for the next 24-48 hours to see if anything happens. Hopefully it doesn’t.

“At the moment we’re not having much luck with injuries. Adam Matthews was meant to be involved today and pulled out yesterday. He went for a scan yesterday and is out for a couple of weeks now.

“Ben Purrington we were hoping was going to be fit. This one just came a little too soon for him. We’ve got three out of four full-backs out. But the lads that are playing, you can’t fault them.”
