Chris Solly will be Charlton’s first-team captain this season – with Johnnie Jackson remaining club captain.

Midfielder Jackson has moved into a player-coach role for the 2017-18 campaign which is likely to see his game-time reduced.

Long-serving right-back Solly has always deputised when the fellow fans’ favourite is not available.

“Johnnie Jackson is club captain and Chris Solly is first-team captain,” said Charlton manager Karl Robinson. “I don’t think at any stage that Chris will want to be captain when Johnnie is on the pitch.

“It’s not that he doesn’t want to – Johnnie won’t let him!”
