Police seeking man who carried out unprovoked knife attack in Southwark

Detectives investigating a stabbing in Southwark from July have released the image of a man they would like to speak to who may be connected to the incident.

At 11.55pm on Sunday 15 July, the victim, a 30-year-old man, and his friend were leaving a pub on Denmark Hill and got into the victim’s car.

When they were in the car the victim spoke to a female and got her number.

The suspect then approached the car and asked the victim where he was from before turning to walk away. Instead of walking off, the suspect turned around and came back to the victim’s car, opened the driver’s door and stabbed him in the left forearm.

The suspect then attempted to stab the victim again, but this time aimed for his chest. The victim kicked the suspect away, stopping him from seriously harming him. He received a small wound to his chest as a result.

The suspect left the scene and the victim’s friends, who was not injured in the attack, drove them both to a south London hospital.

Police were called when the victim arrived at hospital.

His injuries were deemed non-life threatening or life changing.

Detective Constable Colin Scott, from Southwark CID, said: “We would like to identify the individual in this picture and speak to him about the attack that took place on Sunday, 15 July. It is not known at this stage if he is the suspect or a significant witness, however it’s very important that we speak to him as soon as possible.”
