Gary Rowett answers question on potential loan exits for U23 players at Millwall

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Gary Rowett says that there are “no imminent” plans to send any of Millwall’s young players out on loan.

There had been talk that striker George Alexander – the son of former Lions frontman Gary – could be attracting interest.

“With all of these young players they are at that stage of their development where you ask ‘is a loan a good option?’,” said Millwall manager Rowett. “To get them some games, get them some experience.

“There are players who have done well in the U23s and probably need that challenge.

“George is one who has progressed really well. We know he’s a goalscorer and physically at the moment it would be difficult for him to step up to Championship level. But we know he has got good potential.

“He’s just one of many, we’ll sit down with Nuge [Kevin Nugent] and Robbo [Paul Robinson] and go through what they think is the best plan for them.

“There are no imminent plans to send anyone out on loan unless we feel it is part of their development plan.”
